A member of the ‘pimento' or pepper family, resembling a large brown peppercorn. When ground, it tastes like a mixture of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg with hints of ginger and pepper. Very versatile, it is used in sweet and savoury dishes. Ground into jerk seasoning, whole berries are added to the vinegar used in pickles and chutneys and used in spiced ham. Also delicious finely ground in biscuit and cake recipes, such as a carrot, apple and lemon drizzle cake.
