What is Nurture?
Nurture was launched in 1992, to ensure Tesco delivers world class quality fruit and vegetables for our customers. It is an exclusive, independently accredited, quality standard that assures you, our customer, that Tesco fruit and vegetables are grown in an environmental and responsible way. Each grower is independently audited and monitored regularly to ensure we continue to meet the exacting standard.
The Values of the Nurture Scheme:
Leading the way
We recognised early on that to realise our vision of bringing our customers the very best quality fruit and vegetables we would need to work closely with our suppliers and set the highest standard. In 1992, Tesco was the first supermarket to pioneer and establish best farming practice for Fruit and Vegetables in the UK .Since then the 'Nurture' scheme has evolved and we now work with 15,000 growers in 70 countries across the world.
Working in partnership with the Suppliers and Communities
Our dedicated technical team travel the globe building relationships with each grower based on honesty, trust and the passion to deliver the highest quality of fruit and vegetables. Through the scheme we endeavour to support the local communities of growers who work in partnership with us. This has been demonstrated in communities across the globe from suppliers building schools in Peru, adult educational projects in South Africa to providing a clean water supply in Spain.
Commitment to quality Fruit and Vegetables
Our assurance is your quality guarantee. When you buy Tesco fruit and vegetables you will have the confidence in knowing your food has been grown to the highest quality standard in an environmentally sustainable and responsible way, all achieved at no extra cost to you.
Caring for the Environment
Our unique approach with 'Nurture' offers us the fantastic opportunity to pioneer standards around the use of pesticides, reducing energy usage and allows us to break new ground improving and enhancing the local environment.
By using one standard we can tell you exactly where your produce has come from and that's because we follow it every step of the way, from seed to shelf.
