Steak with puttanesca sauce and mozzarella mash
Ingredients
- For the mash
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
- 3tbsp milk
- 2tbsp olive oil
- small handful fresh basil, chopped
- 50g buffalo mozzarella
- For the sauce
- 4 plum tomatoes, chopped (or ½ can chopped tomatoes)
- 2 anchovies, chopped
- 1tsp capers, chopped
- 6 black olives, halved
- pinch dried chillies
- For the steak
- salt
- black pepper
- 2 x 200g sirloin steaks
Each serving contains 740 calories, 7.8g sugar, 32g fat, 10.7g saturates and 1.8g salt.
Method
Boil the potatoes for 15 minutes until tender, then drain well and mash with the milk and 1tbsp olive oil. Dice the mozzarella and gently stir into the mash with the fresh basil. Do not overmix or the cheese will become stringy.
Meanwhile, heat 1tbsp oil in a shallow pan and add the sauce ingredients. Cook over a medium heat until the tomatoes soften to make a sauce.
Season the steaks and grill on high for 3 minutes each side for medium, 5 minutes on each side for well done.
Serve the sauce poured over the steaks with the mashed potatoes on the side.
