Either Pre-heat Oven Mk 2 OR Use Slow Cooker.
In large casserole dish or slow cooker
arrange in layers, shredded cabbage with salt and pepper then chopped onion and apples with a sprinkling of garlic, spices and sugar. Continue with alternate layers until all in. Pour over wine vinegar, add small knobs of butter.
I use a slow cooker and leave to cook overnight. Delicious with any roast meat and adds a lovely colour to the dish.
