Sesame Tofu HERO

Arrange tofu slices in a single layer on a flat dish. Combine marinade ingredients in a mixing bowl and pour over tofu. Leave to marinate for at least 15 minutes, turning the tofu slices over occasionally.

Dip the tofu slices, one at a time, into egg and milk or water mixture. Coat with sesame seeds and flour mixture. Deep-fry the coated tofu slices in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on absorbent kitchen paper.

Serve with chilli sauce.

Note: Vary the amount of sesame seeds according to your preference.

  • 3 pieces of firm tofu, cut into 3 slices vertically
  • 1/2 Egg, lightly beaten, mixed with 1 tbsp milk or water
  • 60g sesame seeds
  • 50g plain flour, sifted and mixed with 1/4tsp salt and 1/4tsp white pepper
  • cooking oil for deep-frying
  • Marinade
  • 1 red chilli, seeded and ground
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and ground
  • 1/2 spring onion, finely chopped
  • 2tsp light soy sauce
  • 5tbsp chinese rice wine
  • 1tsp sugar
  • 1/4tsp salt
  • 1/4tsp ground white pepper
