Video guide to making sugar syrup
Hi, I'm Marcus and I'm going to show you how to make sugar syrup.
It's really important when making sugar syrup to make sure you have equal quantities of caster sugar and of water. I'm going to pop this on a medium heat.
We want to make sure when we're stirring this that we don't allow this to get to hot. Now that started off cloudy but it's going to go clear as it starts to dissolve. There's lots of uses for sugar syrup. You could pop a vanilla pod in there, make a vanilla syrup, add it to a coffee. Why not make some cocktails? Maybe pop some orange zest, lemon zest. There's so many things you can do, even a sorbet or a bit of Swiss meringue.
And now that's nice and clear, we could let that cool, pop it in a container, keep it in the fridge for up to a week. Now if we allow that to cook for a little bit longer, maybe another five to ten minutes, we're going to get a nice little golden colour on that sugar syrup.
I've also got some lovely oranges that I've just prepared. Taken the skin off, sliced them, sprinkled some pistachios on top. What we're going to do is just grab a spoon and just drizzle that over our lovely oranges and pistachios.
And that's how you make sugar syrup.
