Crunchy, crisp, sharp, succulent, sweet – with such an amazing variety of British apples available (including 24 different types at Tesco) it’s no wonder that it’s one of the nation’s favourite fruits.
Of course some apples are good for eating just as they are, and others, like Bramleys, are better for cooking (and you can find out more about how to choose apples here). Opt for something sophisticated and savoury, such as Crab, Celery and Apple Salad with Vinaigrette or use as an accompaniment to a British classic, Roast Pork With Apple Gravy.
But where apples really come into their own is the puddings, from that guaranteed crowd-pleaser, good old Traditional Apple Pie, to something a little more adventurous, such as Rooibos Tea Custard With Caramelised Apple. And the good news is, that the apple season lasts all winter long. Enjoy!
