Whether your first memory is of a '99 with a flake from an ice cream van or a homemade lolly on a hot summer's day in the garden, ice cream is something that feels a bit decadent, something that's not just for everyday and we love it all the more because of that. But seeing as July is National ice cream month we think a little more of your favourite flavour is definitely acceptable!
If the barbecue weather holds (we're saying a silent prayer to the weather gods that it does) Summer BBQ Bananas are the perfect al fresco dessert served with good quality vanilla ice cream. Or if you want to keep it simple a Vanilla Light and Fruity is a refreshing mix of vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit.
Speak to most foodies and they'll raise their eyes to the heavens and sigh when anyone mentions making their own ice cream. But it's not that hard! Blueberry Ripple Yogurt Ice cream is as easy as pie (ahem) to make and looks like you've been slaving in the kitchen all day. When everyone ‘oohs' and ‘ahhs' play it down with an ‘it was nothing' and you'll be a domestic goddess for good.
America was one of the first places to embrace ice cream and manufacture it in some crazy flavours (beer ice cream anyone?!) They're also big fans of the ice cream cake (layers of cake and ice cream together) for special occasions. We've made our ice cream cake a bit more adult friendly by adding a Limoncello kick for an over-18's celebration.
If you're a traditionalist at heart nothing beats a Knickerbocker glory. With its glorious (pardon the pun) moniker and piles of toppings and ice cream it's hard to think of a better way to celebrate National ice cream month.
