What a year 2012 has been for us Brits. We didn’t let a dismal summer dampen our spirits – we got out the barbecues and bunting for the Jubilee, then yelled ourselves hoarse supporting our Olympic athletes. As it draws to a close, most of us have very fond memories, so this New Year deserves to be toasted with a special tipple.
A glass of bubbly is the classic option to mark midnight, and you’ll find several champagnes on offer at Tesco Grocery. Add a spoonful of fruit purée to each glass to make your very own bellinis.
But I think surprising your loved ones with homemade cocktails tailored to their tastes is an extra-special touch. Use the Real Food Cocktail Finder for inspiration. If your mum only likes sweet drinks, your best friend is partial to gin and your kids need something non-alcoholic, this clever tool can suggest options for each. Of course there’s no need to reveal that you didn’t come up with them yourself.
For me, a classic margarita is the perfect celebration drink, and as a non-alcoholic option, I’d make a pitcher of this spiced orange mocktail. It’s full of fabulously festive flavours.
On behalf of everyone at Real Food, I’d like to wish you a wonderful 2013, filled with laughter, luck, and of course a lot of good food.
