Jamie Oliver's batch-cook beauties

Jamie says: "I’m never without these fail-safe staples in my freezer when things get busy."

  1. Feeling chilli

A batch-cook classic for a reason, veggie chilli is a super-versatile meal to have stacked up in the freezer. Fill jacket spuds; stuff into wraps; or spoon over tortilla chips, sprinkle with cheese and grill for post-pub nachos. For a proper winter warmer, try incorporating your veggie chilli mix into a chilli 'non' carne soup.

  2. Souper veg

One of the all-time freezer faves, whip up a batch of soup using any veg you’ve got to hand. Chuck in pasta, pulses or leftover roast meat and freeze flat in reusable freezer bags to save that all-important freezer space. This pearl barley and chorizo soup, for example, is sure to become a family favourite during the winter.

  3. The big tom

Batch up basic or veg-packed tomato sauce (like this roasted 5-veg sauce) to use in stews, casseroles, pasta dishes, curries and pizzas.
