One-tray dinner party dishes to pair with Merlot

    Most of this sticky brisket recipe can be prepared beforehand. Beef brisket is marinated in a selection of spices and slow-cooked for six hours until melt-in-the-mouth-tender. The subtle spice of the Merlot works really well with the dark, sweet meat. Pile into mini tortillas with guacamole, pickled onions and cheesy, charred corn for a relaxed, crowd-pleasing main course.

    This impressive-looking vegan stew can be baked the day before so you only need to gently warm it up before serving. It’s packed with tomatoes, courgettes and aubergines, and topped with a zesty, nutty topping. Serve with ciabatta to mop up the sauce and a glass of Merlot – the subtle saffron notes really bring out the flavours. Delicious!

    Lasagne is comfort food at its best and this cheesy vegetarian number is sure to be a hit. Hearty mushrooms add texture to the rich tomato sauce – flavoured with rosemary – and then layered with fresh lasagne sheets and dollops of cheese sauce. Creamy blue cheese is then dotted on top before baking. This is the perfect pairing for Merlot – the saltiness of the cheese and the sauce balance out its juiciness and brings out the smooth flavour.
