A member of the cabbage family, this root vegetable is usually sold with short, cut stems jutting out from the top (the leaves can be boiled or steamed too). It is smooth, round and pale green in colour, sometimes with a purple tinge.
How to cook
Steam or boil small whole vegetables for about 15-20 minutes until tender, then peel and serve with melted butter. Or peel, slice and add in to a chicken stir fry or serve thinly shredded in salad recipes.
