Giant melons are fruit with glossy green skins or beautiful stripes. Cut open they reveal a brilliant bright pink flesh with tiny black seeds. They have a deliciously refreshing flavour, but a very high water content. They are best sliced and served chilled to quench thirst in the summer. The cubed or sliced flesh can be added to salad recipes with feta cheese and mint, or liquidised to make a refreshing drink. Try our watermelon cooler recipe.
How to prepare
Cut the melon in half and then into wedges. Slice the wedges and remove the black seeds, and cut off the thick green rind. Watermelon will keep for several days in the fridge, cover the cut surface with clingfilm.
