this recipe was my mother in laws who used to serve it every christmas eve when all the family got together
combine flour, butter, ground almonds and sugar in a bowl and knead until a large ball form you may need to add cold water. leave to rest for 20 minutes
roll out pastry and peirce all over with a fork. set oven for gas mark 5 place into a preheated rectangular baking tray and cook until golden brown (roughly 20-25 minutes)
for the caramel
place butter sugar and a cup of milk in a strong saucepan heat slowly until butter melts then turn up heat whilst stirring continually. make sure the caramel does not burn. when its a lovely brown colour take of heat and beat for one minute - allow to cool
spread the caramel over the pastry ensuring a good thick coverage.. sprinkle chocolate vermecilli and almond flakes to decorate. cut into squares and enjoy!
