Heat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4. Grease and line a 900g (2lb) loaf tin.
Cream together the sugar and butter or margarine until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, then the bananas, and mix everything together well.
Stir in the self raising flour, bicarbonate soda and cranberries.
Pour the mixture into the prepared tin.
Bake for 1 hour until well risen and firm. Insert a skewer into the centre, if it comes out clean the teabread is ready.
Cook for a few more minutes, if needed. Once cooked, turn out onto a wire rack to cool. Serve sliced, with butter, if you like.
