Beef Stew recipe

Preheat oven to 350F, Gas mark 4, 180C

Crush garlic and mix with mustard. Put beef in and stir.

In a large casserole, heat oil and and meat and fry, for about 6-8 minutes (until meat is browned.

Add veg, worcestershire and stock and bring to boil..

Put in oven and cook for 2 hours.

If you want to melt cheese over it - sprinkle grated cheeses and cook for 10-15 minutes.

If you want to have it with dumplings - put dumplings in and cook for 20-25 minutes or whatever your dumpling recipe says.

Serve with whatever you want - potatoes, rice, bread, cous cous.

  • 350-500g Stewing beef - depending on how much beef you want in the stew
  • 3 tbles Dijon mustard
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tbles Veg oil
  • 6-8 Carrots
  • 1 Leek
  • 1 Onion
  • 4-6 Parsnips
  • 2 tbles Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pint beef stock or water
  • 8 oz hard cheese grated (OPTIONAL)
