I made these cakes with my Grandchildren, as a special treat for Bonfire Night.
Mix up the sponge mix following the directions on the packet, I added orange zest, optional.
Place a paper cake case into the tins and divide the mixture equally. Bake in the middle of the oven for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Gas mark 4, or until golden brown, and cooked in the middle (test with a skewer).
Leave to cool completely.
Cover the sides and top of the cake,(removing the paper cake case first) in chocolate spread. Then add the Matchmakers sloping them inwards at the top. Add colourful sweets and red liquorice inside the Matchmakers to look like flames.
You need to use paper cake cases to stop cakes sticking to cake tins. Greasing is not sufficient.
Also cakes need to be cold, or else the chocolate spread melts and falls off the cake.
