Fry the sausages until browned all over.
Put the onions in a layer at the bottom of a large casserole dish and pop the sausages on top.
Add all the other ingredients apart from the potatoes, bovril and flour. Season well.
Mix the bovril with the flour and make up to 400ml with water, stirring slowly so there are no obvious lumps
Mix this into the casserole and top with the sliced potatoes.
Cover the dish and bake in the oven gas 6 for around 60 minutes. Check that the potatoes are cooked, if necessary give it another 10 minutes.
This is great for parties as it will remain perfectly fine if left in a low oven should guests be late.
