Remove the cherry stalks and flick out the stones.
Sift the self raising flour and almond powder.
Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar with a whisk untill fluffy then add beaten egg little by little.
Add sifted flour and almond powder in the bowl and mix well.
Leave about 8 cherries aside and add all other cherries into a bowl and mix.
Spoon into the prepared cake tin(15cm) and put the remaining cherries on top,
Bake for 50-60 minutes until a cake tester comes out clean when inserted into the centre of the cake. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tin.
