Preheat the oven to Gas 4, 180 °C, fan 160 °C. Line 2 baking trays with parchment paper.
Sift together the flour, baking soda and set aside.
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until blended well. Beat in the golden syrup and vanilla and mix in the sifted ingriedients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Take a teaspoonful of the mixture, roll it into 20 balls, then place onto a greases baking tray, flattening slightly with the palm of your hand. Repeat with the rest of the cookie dough, leaving plenty of room for cookies to spread.
Bake for 12 mins until golden brown. Cool on trays before transferring on to a cooling rack. Store in an airtight tin.
