Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
Lay the pears in an oven proof dish.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time and the vanilla extract, beating well until mixed then fold in the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder.
Pour the mixture over the pears and bake in the oven for approximately 20-25 minutes.
Serve with custard or cream.
