I am a home cake baker and make cakes for my family and friends each week, this is something I love to do and feel very pasionate about

Place all of the ingredients from 1-8 into a food mixer or processor and mix together until all is combined Place the mixture into 2 8inch loose bottom pans that have been greased and lined with baking parchment Divide the mixture into the 2 pans and bake for 25 mins in the oven on 180C- Gas 4 until the cake is coming away from the side of the tins and springy to touch on the top Once cooled slightly remove from the pans and place onto a cooling rack to cool completely Cream together the Icing sugar, butter,cocoa powder and milk Spread a good thick layer onto one of the sponges and place the other sponge on top Spread some of the buttercream all over the cake. Pipe some rossettes onto the top of the cake and place the chocolate buttons as you like over the cake

There are many variations that can be made to this cake depending on the occasion. I used chocolate buttercream all over with chocolate buttons as it is for an easter present

  • 400g icing sugar
  • 25g cocoa powder
  • 2-3tbsp Milk
