Place the oats, milk and cinnamon in a large saucepan with 400ml water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to the boil over a moderate heat then reduce to a simmer for about 6 minutes, stirring frequently until thickened.

Remove from the heat and allow to stand for a few minutes before spooning into serving bowls. Pile stacks of the apple in the centre of each bowl.
