Hunt's Beef Stroganoff

I was always looking for a great demi-glace to make my stroganoff and at home it is too much work to make a proper one yourself. When I saw Knorr‘s Rich Beef Stock Pot I thought this was the answer and indeed it is. It imparts the full flavour of a true demi-glace and is so simple to use. Keep up the good work Knorr.

Prepare the ingredients so finely chop the onions, mushrooms and garlic.

Slice the fillets into fairly thick medallions

Prepare rice and vegetables using your favourite seasonal vegetables what ever you like.

Thinly slice gherkins for garnish and use beetroot thinly sliced available from Tesco in the Polish section. Garnish is optional.

Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan and add shallots or onions, mushrooms and garlic and fry until almost golden but still translucent.

Add a good glug of brandy and flambe taking care not to lose your hair or eyebrows in the process.

Add cream and the Knorr Rich Beef Stock Pot and stir constantly ensuring it is completely absorbed into the sauce.

Season and add a couple of drops of Tabasco or similar chilli sauce. I like the one with smoked chipotle.

Ensure your rice and vegetables will be ready at the same time as your steak and sauce. You can pre cook and reheat or start cooking in order that you finish at the same time.

Whilst the sauce is cooking out fry the steak medallions in a little butter and olive oil, seasoning as and when you require. Cook the steak to your preferred level, Mine is medium rare. This only takes a few minutes on each side.

Serve a bed of rice with steak and sauce together or separate and your choice of seasonal vegetables. Garnish with gherkins and beetroot if you like.

The best quality fillet steak should be used. Tesco do a jar of thinly sliced beetroot which is ideal. Sweet cucumbers or gherkins can be used. Keep the sauce moving so as not to stick. Serve immediately.
