Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4

Cream the sugar and butter together.

Sift into the butter mixture, the flour, ground cinnamon and mixed spice and finally add the fruit and mix thoroughly.

Now add the eggs and combine the mixture.

Pour the mix into a greased and lined baking tin and level the surface, sprinkle with some white sugar and bake in the oven for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature if too hot.

The cake is ready when a skewer is inserted and comes out clean.
