Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy-based frying pan over medium heat, add the onion and fry for 2 minutes. Add the garlic and fry for 1 minute. Add the beef and continue to cook, stirring to ensure it evenly browns. Add the tomato puree, sugar and chilli powder and stir well.
Add the tomatoes and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the kidney beans, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook for a further 20 minutes until thick. Check the seasoning and serve.
Tips: This is really a recipe for those of you who like it hot so if you want to less chilli powder or more spice it's up to you! Serve with cooked rice.
