This was one of my children‘s favourites when they were small....my daughter did not like eating fish she could see but always ate the fish pie. It is a good one to give babies that have been weaned because of the softness of the food, only probably best to leave off the paprika and tomato.
peel, boil and mash potatos with butter and milk put on one side
steam the fish in a small amount of milk with pepper and salt and lemon juice or wrap in tin foil with a knob of butter, pepper, salt and lemon juice until fish is cooked it will flake when done.
Make quarter of a pint of white sauce by melting 1/4 oz butter in a saucepan, stir in 1/2 oz flour to form a roux and cook for 1 - 2 mins without browning. Add 1/4 pint milk a little at a time whisking to keep mixture smooth, bring to boil stirring all the time. Cook for 2 - 3 mins. Season and flavour wtih salt pepper and parsley
mix the flaked fish and white sauce together putting into baking dish top with mashed potato and a layer of grated cheese ... sprinkle top with paprika if you like this or put a line of freshly cut tomato slices down centre of pie.
Cook for 30 minutes in a fan oven of 180 degress when you want to eat. Serve with your favourite veg. If you like a glass of wine a crisp dry white would go well.
This is an easy one to prepare the ingredients before you go to work (or the night before cover and leave in your fridge ) as part of your daily routine and is quick to put together when you come home.
If you don't like haddock choose any other kind of fish.
