This is my sons favorite recipe, he lives and works abroad and every time he comes to the UK I have to make sure that there is a fresh batch waiting for him!
Put flour, salt and half the butter into a mixing bowl and rub flour in
Add egg and enough water to make a firm dough
Roll out to an oblong and dot one third of the butter over, roll the pastry and repeat until all the butter is used
Roll out into a square and spread the Marmite over the whole square
Roll the pastry up like a swiss roll
Slice into pieces about half inch thick
Place flat on a baking tray and brush with a little beaten egg
Bake in the oven on 200 degrees for approximately 25 minutes
Use Marmite according to taste but be careful not everyone may like it as much as you!
