Preheat the oven to Gas 4, 180°C, fan 160°C. Use some of the butter to grease an 18cm (7 inch) square tin.
Melt golden syrup, sugar and butter in a pan. Add the muesli and apples to the melted mixture and mix together well.
Tip the mixture into the tin and spread evenly, pressing down quite firmly with the back of a spoon. Bake for 30 minutes until pale golden. Leave in the tin to cool, marking into portions with a sharp knife.
Eat warm, or within 2 days. Store in an airtight tin.
