Everybody loves pizza and with this amazing recipe children from 10 and 11 upwards will learn how to create their very own by making and kneading dough.

Ask an adult to preheat the oven to Gas Mark 6, 200°C, fan 180°C.

Grease two baking trays by spreading butter or margarine around them.

Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl.

Stir in the yeast, before adding oil and warm water to wake up the yeast and help the dough to rise.

Mix the ingredients together until it forms a smooth ball of soft dough.

Lightly flour a work surface and tip the dough out onto the worktop. This is a chance for children to get really involved! Press down with your hands and, as the dough flattens down, fold it in half and press down with your hands again. Continue to knead the dough like this for five to 10 minutes.

Place the dough in a bowl and cover with clingfilm or a damp tea towel and leave it to prove for 20 minutes.

Divide the dough in half and, on the floured work surface, roll it out into two round discs, choosing whether you’d like a thin or thick base.

Spread the tomato sauce over the base with a knife or the back or a spoon.

Tear the mozzarella and arrange it evenly over the pizza.

Add the slices of pepperoni. You could also try toppings like spinach, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and onion.

Wash the basil, tear it and sprinkle it over the pizza.

Ask an adult to place the pizzas in the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes.

Allow to cool and serve this brilliant pizza for lunch or dinner.
