Bring a large pan of water to the boil and pre heat the oven to Gas 6, 200ºC, fan 180ºC.
Peel and chop the potatoes into large chunks. Add them to the pan and boil for 5 minutes.
While potatoes are boiling, heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the chops for a couple of minutes on each side, until sealed and golden.
Remove the chops from the pan and set aside then fry the sliced for a couple of minutes. Add the shredded cabbage and fry for a couple of minutes more.
Place the onion and cabbage into the bottom of an ovenproof dish and arrange the chops and potatoes on the top.
Deglaze the frying pan with a couple of tablespoonfuls of water and 1 tbsp soy sauce then pour over the cabbage, potatoes and chops. Scatter over the grated cheese and place the dish in the oven. Cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, ensuring the chops are cooked through before serving
Tips: This all-in-one dish is very versatile. You can make it for as many people as you want, put as many or as few potatoes and as much or as little cabbage as you like. I like to add soy sauce for added colour and taste but you can add spices like cumin or turmeric or even a drop of white wine in the sauce.
