I love this recipe as it is easy but has a great effect. Show off your baking skills without the big effort.
Preheat oven to 160 Degrees and oil a 26cm round cake tin.
Whip the 5 egg whites till forming peaks.
Beat the 5 yolks with sugar than slowly add flavouring, oil and water.
Gently mix in the flour then fold in the stiff egg whites.
Divide dough into 4 / 5 equal portions and add a colour to each portion.
For each colour add one or two spoons full of dough into the cake tin. Start in the middle then add the new colour on top and continue adding the different colours on top of the dough till all is used. The colours will spread themselves out in the cake tin.
Bake for 50 minutes. Take out and let cool down.
Icing: Beat the soft butter with the icing sugar and the lemon curd. Apply to the cooled cake.
Please note that food colouring does not mix i.e. red and blue will not make purple. Therefore it is important that you buy all the colours you want to use.
The Lemon Curd icing will give a nice zing to your cake.
