its a childhood dish which my best friend taught me. i still love making it and it good for you.
slice the onions and fry in oil,when soft and light brown add the tomato puree. also add the salt turmeric and red chilli powder. mix until heated then add a litle water and leave to simmer.
prepare the sardines by cuting in half and removing the long bone in the middle. then add to the pan. mix and add some water. once it comes to boiling point cover and let it simmer for around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. once cooked serve with pitta bread and some thouand island.
you can warm the pitta bread on a frying pan applying butter to both sides.
