Smokey mackerel spread recipe

Mackerel is packed full of nutrients so this is a great recipe to introduce to children from four and five upwards. 

Squeeze the juice from the lime using the juice squeezer. Or you could use a lemon instead.

Break the mackerel fillet into small pieces and put them into a bowl. Children can get stuck in with their fingers and check there aren’t any bones remaining inside the fish.

Snip the chives into the bowl using the scissors. Add the sour cream and the lime juice, then mix together using a fork. Mash the mixture together – children will enjoy this part!

Serve on granary bread with cucumber, or in sandwiches, or with with savoury biscuits. And you could try canned tuna instead of mackerel.
