This is a recipe that my Mother taught me when I was about 7 - it is still a family favourite especially with my husband.
mix together the hot tea & sugar, cover and leave overnight
heat oven to 160 C Gas 3
line the base of a 1kg loaf tin
beat the egg and add to tea & sugar, stir in the flour
place mixture into tin and bake for 1.5 - 1.75 hours
Allow to cool then slice and serve spread with butter
I sometimes add a drop of brandy or port to the tea for a little added flavour.
