I love baking birthday cakes for family as it is extra special and tastes so much nicer than shop brought cakes

Mix butter and sugar together Beat in eggs one at a time Fold in flour a little at a time Divide mixture between two baking cases Bake in the oven gas mark 5, middle shelf for around 20 minutes When cool, turn out of cases Mix butter and icing sugar to make butter icing and spread over middle of cake, add jam Add ready rolled icing over top Decorate as desired
