These small, round, indigo blue-coloured berries are thin-skinned and contain golden flesh with tiny seeds. These berries are native to North America but are now so popular they are widely grown in many countries.
Blueberries are available all year round fresh, in juice and dried.
Select firm ripe berries with a silvery sheen that are not shrivelled, wrinkled or crushed.
Their sweet, tart taste makes them easy to eat raw but they’re also good added to cereal or yogurt for breakfast, or stewed with a little sugar and water to make a compote or sauce for American cheesecakes or pancakes. Throw a handful of blueberries into muffins, cookies or pies.
Keep blueberries in the fridge for 2-3 days.
