Confidence in the kitchen doesn’t depend on perfect eyesight

After suffering two strokes at the age of 29 and being told she would eventually lose her sight, Claire set herself a challenge: to become the most capable blind person she could be. Armed with determination and a blindfold, she began teaching herself how to cook her daughter’s favourite meals by relying on the feel, texture, smells and sounds of the ingredients around her. In 2017, Claire was registered blind with just 4% of her vision remaining.
Determined to help others navigating sight loss, Claire began sharing the practical ways she adapted everyday tasks, including cooking. Her honest approach and inventive ‘blind hacks’ quickly gained attention, showing how home-cooked meals can still be simple, enjoyable and accessible.
Claire later became the first blind person to cook regularly live on UK daytime television, demonstrating seasonal recipes and showing how confidence in the kitchen doesn’t depend on perfect eyesight.
From comforting family favourites to dishes inspired by flavours discovered while travelling, Claire focuses on simple, delicious food and practical techniques that help people feel confident in the kitchen.
