Born in Tuscon, Arizona, where his Cantonese parents lived after emigrating to American in the late 1940’s, he was raised by his mother in Chicago, Illinois. His introduction, and love of cooking, began at the age of 11 when he worked in his uncle’s Chinese restaurant, he then went on to study in California until he was discovered by the BBC in 1982.
Ken is passionate about using authentic ingredients in his cooking and gives every dish real depth and balance of flavour. Without doubt Ken’s highlight of 2012 was spending over five weeks filming in China and travelling over 15,000 kilometres filming his latest TV series; Exploring China: A Culinary Adventure. Ken comments: “It was hard work but in the process I learnt and discovered so many new tastes and flavours which continue to inspire my meals at Tesco. Part of the joy of filming was going, not only to great restaurants, but into real homes and joining in and cooking with the family.”
