Niyi Obafemi-Olopade

Nigerian-born Niyi knows a thing or two about spice and he’s here to inspire us with his bold flavours and creative dishes.

Spicing things up in the kitchen with exciting fusion flavours

Growing up in Nigeria, spice and intense flavours were a big part of Niyi’s childhood, but he struggled to recreate the same bold flavours in his cooking once he moved to England. Years later, after travelling and training with a chef, Niyi learnt how to blend flavours from his multicultural upbringing, creating a unique cooking style. Fast forward to the present day and Niyi is the proud owner of Novice Kitchen, which creates authentic and locally sourced spice products, from hot sauce to sambal (a chilli paste). Niyi also offers recipe inspiration using these wonderful ingredients and condiments.

Niyi has created several recipes for Tesco Real Food, from fab fusion pasta to crowd-pleasing braised beef to a cinnamon twist on classic malva pudding, but our personal favourite? These Sambal cocktail sausages – a must-try for hosting at any time of year.
