Preheat oven to gas 6, 200ºC, 400ºF. Place the flours, salt, bicarbonate of soda and sugar into a large bowl and combine together. Add the buttermilk and bananas, mix together to form a soft dough.
Tip onto a floured board and lightly knead. Cut dough in half and form into 2 round shape with a smooth top. Place on a non-stick baking tray and cut a large cross on the top. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden and sounds hollow when base is tapped. Allow to cool slightly and serve thickly sliced and buttered.
