3 ways to use up miso

Got a half-opened jar of miso paste in your fridge that you’re unsure how to use? Find all the inspiration you need here! From gooey bakes to drool-worthy mac ’n’ cheese, our selection of creative recipes will give you new ways to put that miso paste to good use.

  1. Miso mac 'n' cheese

Add big umami flavour to a comfort food classic with the addition of two tablespoons of miso. Make a homemade cheese sauce with Cheddar and Gruyère and mix in our star ingredient: miso. Stir your sauce into pasta, we’ve used spirali but you can use whatever you have in your cupboard, and bake until the cheese is golden and bubbling. This will be your new household favourite.

  2. Vegan salted miso blondies

These ultra-gooey blondies are made with vanilla extract, almond butter and miso paste. Stir in both dark and white chocolate chunks for a chocolate hit, then bake. Scatter the top with a pinch of sea salt for the perfect sweet and salty flavour combo. You won’t be able to get enough of them.

  3. Miso caramel apple cake

Sweet and sticky, this upside-down apple cake is the perfect afternoon tea treat. Sliced apples line the base of a cake tin and are covered in a rich, miso-infused caramel before being topped with a cinnamon sponge and baked until golden. This cake is best served warm, so grab a spoon and cosy up!
