Treat the family to hot dogs this weekend – make these caramelised onion hot dogs for a delicious dinner. Use Butcher's Choice frozen sausages and buttery brioche buns for a wallet-friendly meal, topped with sweet and sticky caramelised onions. See method

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 10g butter
  • 3 red onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 8 Butcher’s Choice pork sausages
  • 1 pack 8 butter brioche rolls
  • 40g mature Cheddar, grated
  • 180g pack coleslaw
If you don't have red onions, try using white, brown or spring onions

Method

  1. Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan over a medium heat, add the onions and fry for 20 mins, stirring occasionally until very soft. Increase the heat and stir through the sugar and mustard and cook for 5 mins until lightly caramelised. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. 
  2. Meanwhile, cook the sausages according to packet instructions. 
  3. Cut open the rolls down the top making sure not to cut all the way through and fill with the sausages topped with the onions and a sprinkle of cheese. Serve with the coleslaw on the side.
