This classic Romanian dish makes a substantial post-match snack or a simple, tasty meal. Ham and cheese is a classic marriage of flavours and this baked potatoes recipe takes them a step further by melting them together lovingly in the oven for a warm, hearty dinner that is sure to please the whole family. 

Preheat the oven to gas 6, 200*C, fan 180*C. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Make 5 parallel cuts in each potato, about two-thirds of the way down, taking care not to cut all the way through. Rub the skins with oil, put on the baking tray and cook in the oven for 45-50 minutes or until tender when pierced with a skewer.

Meanwhile, tear the ham into strips and dice the cheese.

When the potatoes are cooked, gently open the slits very slightly and put a piece of ham and cheese in each slit.

Return to the oven for 5-7 minutes until the cheese melts. Garnish with watercress to serve.
