These German-inspired bars make for a great grab-and-go snack, or as a superb lunchbox filler. What's more, chances are you have most of these ingredients at the back of your storecupboard, so making simple snacks has never been easier. See method

  • 200g bar dark chocolate, chopped
  • 60g rice snaps
  • 50g oats
  • 80g glacé morello cherries

  1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Remove, cool slightly, then stir in the rice snaps, oats, cherries and a pinch of salt.

  2. Pour into a lined 20cm square cake tin. Chill for 30 mins or until firm, then cut into 12 bars. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
