These German-inspired bars make for a great grab-and-go snack, or as a superb lunchbox filler. What's more, chances are you have most of these ingredients at the back of your storecupboard, so making simple snacks has never been easier. See method

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Remove, cool slightly, then stir in the rice snaps, oats, cherries and a pinch of salt.
Pour into a lined 20cm square cake tin. Chill for 30 mins or until firm, then cut into 12 bars. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
