We all know that red wine adds real depth of flavour to dishes, but did you know that you can recreate all the taste without buying – or opening – a bottle? For a great storecupboard shortcut, simply pop a red wine stock pot into these recipes for extra depth of flavour.

  1. Coq au vin pie

This warming pie takes inspiration from a comfort-food classic: coq au vin. The filling is a hearty mix of chicken thighs, mushrooms, pancetta and carrots, all cooked in a rich sauce flavoured with a red wine stock pot. Top with ready-rolled puff pastry and bake until golden. This recipe is great for batch cooking too; the filling can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
