The lifesaver is made using fresh tomato juice, Tabasco sauce and vodka for a fiery drink that's sure to kickstart your day. For a delicious Virgin Mary, simply skip the alcohol. See method

Ingredients

  • 900ml (1 1/2pts) chilled tomato juice
  • 1 tsp Tabasco
  • 2 tsp Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 level tsp celery salt
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 300ml (1/2pt) vodka
  • ice, to serve
  • 6 short sticks celery, to serve, optional

Method

  1. Mix the tomato juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt and lemon juice in a large jug. Cover with clingfilm and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 4 hours. This will allow the flavours to blend together.
  2. When ready to serve, put some ice in 6 glasses and add the vodka, then the tomato juice. Stir the cocktail gently and add a celery stick, if you like.
