Grenadine, a non-alcoholic syrup, is one of the most popular of drink syrups in France, along with mint. You can mix it with water, milk (to make Bébé Rose), beer (to make Tango) or add to a glass of sparkling wine.

Preheat the oven to gas 6, 200°C, fan 180°C. Put the strawberries on a baking tray, scatter with the sugar and cook for 10-15 minutes.

Leave the strawberries to cool for a few minutes, then put in a blender with the grenadine and milk, and whizz to a purée. Put a handful of ice cubes in four glasses then pour in the drink. Top with a strawberry.
